Stonehall Innovations' Management Team
At Stonehall Innovations our goal is to be on the cutting edge of innovation. We want to cultivate the next generation of revolutionary companies that will change the world. We are committed to providing the expertise, resources, and access to investors that entrepreneurs need to create the company they envision.
For years we have heard about incubators and accelerators and how they have been helping start-ups reach maturity. However, after doing some digging we came to realize most incubators and accelerators are short term programs designed solely to get as many start-ups through to a Pitch Day and then out the door as possible. They are more interested in the liquidity event (this is how they make their money) than the ultimate success or longevity of the start-ups they bring through their program.
We disagree with this approach and thought there must be a better way, so we created the world's first Cultivator. The choice of the word is important, as our goal is to cultivate start-up companies and give them all the resources, nurturing, and energy they need to become profitable, successful, and long term innovators. We view the start-ups in our program as partners, not clients or investments, and it's this kind of relationship that drives us to make our start-ups as successful as possible. Our program runs from 6 months to a year (depending on how much time each start-up needs) and focuses on not only helping the start-ups develop their idea and make it profitable, but also teaching them how to run a business (accounting, finance, legal, payroll, HR, etc.). Not only will we teach them how to do these tasks, but we can also provide many of these services for them, allowing them time to focus on the most important thing: building their business and realizing their vision.
We believe a Cultivator should be a space that is educational, fun, and diverse (especially in the types of industries served by the start-ups). This helps to breed creativity and innovation, and offers different perspectives than those you may consider on your own. Our program also looks to create a direct link between start-ups and our group of mentors, all of whom are some of the top people in their industries.
Residency in the Cultivator is free and we provide every start-up in the program with a $20,000-$50,000 investment at the beginning of their stay to provide working capital until additional seed money can be raised from our dedicated group of investors. We generally ask for a 10%-20% stake in the companies we admit, but we view this stake as a validation of our faith in your start-up, as well as a commitment on our end to make your start-up successful. We believe the industry standard of 1 in 10 start-ups being successful is shameful, and we aim to reach at least 7 in 10 for all start-ups going through our program. We view a failure of a start-up in or from our program as a failure for us as well.
We have a strategic partnership with FinPro, Inc., the premier community bank consulting company in the country. FinPro has started over 170 banks in the last 20 years, only one of which ended up failing. FinPro brings it's considerable expertise in consulting on things like strategic plans, market segmentation, marketing, and other key areas. FinPro also has a wholly owned Broker-Dealer (FinPro Capital Advisors) which can provide any and all Capital Markets related needs for our start-ups (capital raising, mergers and acquisitions, etc.)
We are committed to making your start-up as successful as you always wanted it to be. Let's change the world.
Our new 5,000 square foot facility was built from the ground up to meet the needs of your start-up while providing a fun (almost college like) atmosphere.
Our brand new facility features over 5,000 square feet of dedicated space that brings together the feel of a co-share workspace, with the privacy of lockable offices for each start-up. This means each start-up will get it's own office with plenty of desk space, a wireless projector (for those always necessary brainstorming sessions), and a whiteboard wall. This office is lockable utilizing a Bluetooth lock that automatically unlocks when it senses the phone (or phones) of the start-ups team-members.
The real fun is in the common area which has everything from a full kitchenette to surround sound multimedia area. Highlights include a movie quality 3D projector, digital surround sound, XboxOne and PS4, full size pool table, co working tables, and four 50 square foot whiteboard walls for brainstorming (and games). The Kitchenette has both a Keurig 2.0 and a Espresso/Cappuccino maker. A fitness facility is available onsite as well.
To keep pace with the speed of new start-ups, we have installed high speed WiFi throughout the facility. We will also be installing a state of the art 3D printer complete with CAD software for those needing to prototype. We are also in talks with local pharmaceutical companies to secure use of their lab space for any of the healthcare/bio-chemical start-ups out there.
Other things coming down the pike include Bubble Soccer which is demonstrated in a promotional film done by Champion:
Our philosophy is that Investors should be involved in the process far before they consider making an investment. That's why we bring investors in every single month for informal dinners with the start-ups in the program, allowing both groups to mingle in a more relaxed setting and get to know each other. We think that when start-ups contact investors for a formal pitch, it should be with investors who already know the start-ups, believe in the people behind the start-ups, and already have an interest in the idea. This allows the entrepreneur(s) to focus on getting their vision across which is the most important part of a pitch anyway. To this end, we are developing a dedicated group of investors that will be continuously part of the program, making them available to the start-ups on a much more frequent basis. We are also going to build out a 2 story medieval stone hall which will be used as a meeting space between our start-ups and the investor group. This space will create a relaxed and fun environment that will remove the stress and apprehension of meeting potential investors.
